Why I Am Campaigning to Stop the Donkey Skin Trade
Friday 18th SepI have always loved donkeys.
There is something incredibly special about them — their gentle nature, intelligence, loyalty and the strong bonds they form with people. To me, donkeys aren't simply working animals or livestock; they are individuals, each with their own personality, character and ability to feel fear, pain, comfort and affection.
That is why I cannot look away from the suffering caused by the donkey skin trade.
Donkeys have supported people for thousands of years, carrying people and goods and helping families earn a living. They give us so much and ask so little in return.
Yet their lives can be reduced to the value of their skin.
That doesn't sit right with me.
I believe that if we benefit from the companionship and hard work of animals, we have a responsibility to protect them and treat them with compassion.
I am campaigning because I love donkeys, and I believe they deserve a voice.
