I'm walking 62 Miles in October to raise funds for Brooke

Every year, over 6 million donkeys are killed for their skins.

That's why I'm walking 62 miles this October for Brooke, the world's largest working equine welfare organisation.

Every mile I walk and every pound you donate will help expose this cruelty and protect donkeys from suffering and slaughter.

Please support my challenge if you can. Together, we can help create a future where donkeys are safe from the skin trade.

Thank you!

Day 17

Saturday 17th Oct
A 4.7 mile walk down Eythrope Road to the river Thame, then across the sheep fields to Dinton Castle and back along the A418. The sheep were far more spooked by me than the heron which landed in the middle of them but the heron was also spooked so only got a photo of the sheep!
Dinton Castle (aka Dinton Folly) was built in 1769 on the site of an Anglo-Saxon burial ground by the owner of Dinton Hall to house his collection of fossils and curiosities, with ammonite fossils from the local limestone embedded in the walls. It was probably never completed and soon fell into decay. As a Grade II listed building, it underwent urgent restoration in 2009 to stabilise it. It was featured on Grand Designs after being purchased in 2016 for conversion to a family home and is now available as an Airbnb.

Day 16

Friday 16th Oct
Across the fields to Upper Hartwell again, but harder going today as one of the large fields was ploughed yesterday and the overnight rain made it very claggy.
Half way through the month and more than half way to my target of 62 miles!

Day 15

Thursday 15th Oct
Lots of larks rising from the stubble fields on the way to Upper Hartwell. Then along the footpath that goes round the back of Stone village, passing the field where I used to keep my horses - now the housing estate on the right in the photo.

Day 14

Wednesday 14th Oct
Down Eythrope Rd towards the Eythrope Estate passing the London milestone (the distance was originally given in Roman numerals as 44 but was changed to 42 after the road became a turnpike in 1770). Then across Starveall Farm's fields and up to the A418 Oxford road - a route we often used to take on the horses. Back along the main road with a view of the Chilterns and passing a better maintained milestone.

Day 13

Tuesday 13th Oct
Misty hills, cloud and drizzle in contrast to the blue skies of previous days. Across the fields (with a view towards Waddesdon and Fleet Marsden) down to Lower Hartwell again. The leaves, with their autumn colours, are starting to fall (see gallery below)  along the wall of Hartwell House grounds.

Day 11

Sunday 11th Oct
Today's route - past the Hartwell House wall containing ammonites surrounded by flint nodules, over the bridge decorated with stone statues down to Lower Hartwell, then back up through Whites Farm and down past the church.

Day 10 - part 2

Sunday 11th Oct
Extra short walk - back across the fields from Hartwell Nursery after lunch with Sue M.
A lot of Greater Knapweed still in flower on the way up the field towards Stone Church, good view for the Chilterns when higher up the hill.

Day 10

Saturday 10th Oct
Today my walk took me along the wall enclosing Hartwell House and it's grounds. The unusual Gothic style, octagonal Church of the Assumption was built in the mid-eighteenth century within the grounds of Hartwell House. The outer shell has been restored after the church suffered damage from thieves, vandals and the weather.

Day 8

Thursday 8th Oct
Sunny, but cold today - lovely walking weather! A 2.6 mile walk across the fields and up to Hartwell.
More photos in the gallery below.

Day 7

Wednesday 7th Oct
Just a short walk in the rain today but the dawn was beautiful when I first got up this morning

Day 4

Monday 5th Oct
Only a short walk but saw lots of Ivy bees feeding in the hedges

My first 3 days

Saturday 3rd Oct
I've uploaded some views (see gallery below) from my first 3 days of walking - 9 miles so far! I'm lucky to have lots of interesting walks on my doorstep.
The large farm in this one is where Flossie, my feral cat, decided to move to from my friend's stables. She is their sole mouser and popular with the farm workers who now look after her - she obviously prefers a solitary life!
